Agriculture is the world's largest industry, employing over one billion people and generating over one trillion dollars' worth of food annually. Pasture and crop land occupy around 50 percent of the Earth's habitable land and provide habitat and food for the majority of the world's plant and animal life. With its deep connections to the world economy, human societies, and biodiversity, agriculture is one of the most important frontiers for conservation in eco-regions around the globe.
More than three quarters of the world's extremely poor people live in rural areas where farming is the only option for fighting poverty and malnutrition. Agriculture is a fundamental element for human existence and is a specific tool in creating a higher standard of living for the poor of the world.
Development, education and financing of agriculture in the developing nations will ultimately help eradicate hunger in its broadest sense and help alleviate poverty and provide a higher standard of living.
The agriculture and food sector continues to generate a substantial portion of the national income and employment for many nations. Without the sound development of this sector, a nation's growth and social cohesion cannot be sustained.
When agricultural operations are sustainably managed, they can preserve and restore critical habitats, help protect watersheds, and improve soil health and water quality and life in general. Agriculture is absolute and critical for human survival. The necessity for knowledge, development, improvement and new solutions is an on-going process. However, the world is still facing different types of crisis in various sectors of agriculture from food shortage, the environment, development, resources, financial resources for further development and preservation.
Therefore, World Agri Trade Exhibition & Conference 2009 is an excellent opportunity for nations to come together in one venue to learn, discuss, impart, and find real solutions and address critical issues especially when the world is sharply focusing on agriculture with the recent food shortage.
Thank you.
